“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure” [Isaiah 46: 9-10 KJV].
When God says, “Remember the things of old,” He is referring to what He has done for you. And when He says, “Remember not the former things of old,” He means don’t allow the past hold you back. Let your prior works and fame not be a hindrance to your ability to achieve more.
The current worldwide crises have caused many individuals, including the Lord’s redeemed, to question and underestimate the capacity and dependability of the God we serve. This is understandable given that we are still mortals with flaws and infirmities who have yet to be raptured into glory. The events surrounding us would naturally cause men to wonder, “Where is our God?” Israel reached the same point where they began to wonder, “Where is our God?” You can’t help but feel discouraged in a country like Nigeria, where there is no justice and wickedness is revered. But I want to assure you that God remains God in all dispensations. Your uncertainties and challenges will not affect God’s nature.
The capacity and aptitude to receive and connect to miracles, signs and wonders, as well as whatever else you require for life and ministry, must be in this Almighty God’s trust or capacity. Nothing substantial will work for you if you underestimate God. I’m talking about things that will last forever. The devil’s goal is to get you to begin to underestimate God’s power. That is why, in this message, we are reminded that He is God Almighty. A time came in Abraham’s life when God had to appear after some years to remind him that He is the Almighty. God cannot and will not change, regardless of the circumstances.
God’s Almightiness refers to God being incomparable, invincible, inscrutable, immutable, unequal, unsearchable, infinite, eternal, ominipotent, omniscient, omniprescent, impartible, none vindictive, all wise etc. It emphasizes His supremacy and fitness for adoration. Worship must be directed solely to God, the Almighty God. God’s almightiness is expressed through:
God’s omnipotence can be seen in every aspect of our life. The good news is that this Almighty God is our father, with whom we have a relationship.
His Command and the Urgency:
In John 4: 35, the Almighty God gives us a charge to go forth and harvest souls for His kingdom. We must not take this charge lightly: “ Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest” (John 4: 35 KJV). “ And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” [Mark 16: 15]. If you slack in your evangelistic effort and campaign, you must seek God’s assistance. Everyone ought to set aside days for personal evangelism in addition to those set out by the church. Keep an evangelistic mindset wherever you go. The Bible commands us to preach the word in season and out of season [2 Timothy 4: 2]. This means that regardless of the season, we must preach the gospel. God has provided us with opportunities for this duty at all times and in all places and every opportunity He provides is for ministry.
Let me suggest a strategy to this command dubbed “Operation 555” [Prospect, Invite and Allow God]. The approach is centred on aggressive evangelism with the objective of winning at least five souls within a set time frame and bringing them into fellowship with the community of Christ. There are pulpits everywhere—in your family, the marketplace, the office, the town, etc. and if we put our minds and hearts to it, we can complete this mission. If gaining souls is not your main concern and then what are you living for as a child of God? Every day, new opportunity is generated.
Why do we need to know that there is urgency? Isaiah 5: 14 says, “Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it” [KJV]. “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever” [Daniel 12: 3 KJV].
According to statistics, around 29,311 people die daily in China, 25,649 people die daily in India, and 7,974 people die daily in the United States. According to the World Bank, there are around 7.88 billion people on the planet earth, with 2.8 billion of them being Christians. As a result, around 5 billion souls remain to be saved. This creates a reasonable need and urgency for soul winning. As our primary mandate, we must be dedicated to this enormous commission. On the Last Day, we will not enter God’s presence with our earthly things but with the souls we have won for the kingdom. As a result, I beg you to rise and get to work on soul winning.
