Bible Passage HEBREWS 11: 1 - 6 NLT

Have Faith In God

  • Mrs. Toyin W. Okoye

‘’Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance
about things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good
reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command,
that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. It was by faith that Abel
brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he
was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he
still speaks to us by his example of faith. It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven
without dying – “he disappeared, because God took him.” For before he was taken up, he was
known as a person who pleased God. And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone
who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who
sincerely seek him’’ [Hebrews 11: 1 – 6 NLT].
Whatever we do in life without faith cannot be pleasing to God. From the scripture above,
the Bible gave a long list of people who through faith accomplished great things. In verse 32
of Hebrews 11 the Bible says, ‘’How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to
recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the
prophets’’ [NLT].
For us to be able to possess the possession God has given to us, we must be able to
overthrow kingdoms. By kingdoms, we mean those things standing on our ways to
breakthrough. According to the Bible, the possibility of you and I ruling with justice without
first overthrowing these kingdoms, will not come to pass.
And so for us to work in dominion and receive what God has promised us, we must walk by
faith. Some of us may have been praying for long without result because we have not dealt
with whatever is standing on our way. But by the mercies of God all the answers to our
prayers will come to pass in Jesus’ name.
In Mark 11: 11 – 24, the Bible says, ‘’…And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit
of thee hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it…   And when even was come, he went out of
the city. And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the
roots. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which
thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.   For
verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be
thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things
which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you,
what things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall
have them’’ [KJV].
A closed mouth is a closed destiny; we have to speak the word of God into our lives on a
daily basis and when we do, we’ll see the manifestation of God’s power in our lives. But if

we fail to speak the word, then we’ll remain at the same spot because we are not putting
our faith to work.
One of the enemies of faith is doubt. When we doubt the word of God in our lives, it makes
the word of non-effect. The Bible says, ‘‘What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe
that ye receive them, and ye shall have them’’ [Mark 11: 24 KJV]. So the antidote to doubt is
having faith.
We must approach the ongoing 14 days fasting and prayers with all seriousness. Anything
we desire of the Lord this period, He will give it to us. The word of God is our very potent
weapon against the devil and so we must engage His word to our advantage. In Hebrews 4:
12, the Bible says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and
marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart’’ [KJV].
Also, the name of God is another weapon of our warfare. In Philippians 2: 9 – 11 the Bible
says, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above
every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven,
and things in earth, and things under the earth;   and that every tongue should confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” [KJV]. Again in Proverbs 18: 10 the Bible
records, ‘’The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.’’
[KJV].
Finally, the blood of Jesus is another weapon we must engage by faith; it is the seal of our
victory in any conflict of life. Jesus has paid the price for our victory. In Revelation 12: 11,
the Bible says, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their
testimony…” [KJV]. Just as the Bible has said, be rest assured that in the name of Jesus we
will overcome and live our lives as overcomers because we have been initiated into the
blood covenant with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
